Vehicle Cybersecurity Benchmarking

Understand what the industry is doing.

Industry standards, guidelines and implementation frameworks help establish the direction for automotive cybersecurity. Turning those requirements into working vehicle systems involves detailed engineering choices about architectures, integration, protection measures and validation.

Our vehicle cybersecurity benchmarking investigations examine how security is implemented in practice, giving OEMs and suppliers technical evidence to inform their own development decisions.

Why benchmark?

What do you need to discover?

An engineering specification only tells part of the story. The interesting details are in how a system has actually been built, integrated and protected. Our vehicle cybersecurity benchmarking investigations bring the details into view, helping OEMs and suppliers make better decisions about investment, technology and future development.

How does your cybersecurity roadmap compare with what other manufacturers are implementing? Understand where you're aligned with the industry, where you're ahead and where your next investment will matter most.

01 /
Are we investing in the
right areas?

Explore how early adopters have implemented new technologies in real vehicles. From system architecture and packaging to integration choices and engineering checks, understand the decisions behind working solutions.

02 /
How did they get that into production?

Get into the technical details behind published standards. Investigate how security is implemented across individual components, vehicle networks and connected systems, and understand how those measures work together.

03 /
What is really happening inside the vehicle?

Use the findings to identify opportunities, develop countermeasures and shape validation plans. Give your engineering team detailed evidence and practical recommendations to help decide what happens next.

04 /
What should we develop or validate next?

Inside the investigation

From a single component to the wider industry

Our vehicle cybersecurity benchmarking support can begin with a single ECU or security technology, and extend to an entire vehicle architecture, comparisons between manufacturers or the connected systems surrounding them. The scope depends on what your team needs to understand, from how a specific protection measure works, to the engineering choices behind its implementation in production.

At our UK Technical Centre, our engineers investigate real vehicles and electronic systems, examining hardware, software, vehicle communications and, where relevant, firmware.

We explore how security measures have been designed and integrated, identifying the technical decisions, practical challenges and potential limitations that can inform your own engineering and development programmes.

What you take away

The details behind
better decisions

Every benchmarking investigation produces detailed findings that stand up to technical scrutiny. Our reports bring together the engineering evidence, data and analysis from your investigation, explaining how security measures have been implemented and what we've learned from examining them.  We then turn those findings into clear, practical recommendations.

Whether you're reviewing your cybersecurity roadmap, assessing an emerging technology, developing countermeasures or planning future validation, you get the evidence and insight your engineers need to make better decisions.

Who is setting the standard
for OTA Updates?

A global automotive consortium wanted a clearer understanding of how over-the-air technology was being implemented across the industry. Which manufacturers were leading, what engineering choices had been made, and what could the wider market learn from them?

Mobility Cyber Labs  supported the benchmarking work, helping investigate real-world OTA implementations and build a stronger technical basis for comparison. The result was a clearer view of current practice and better evidence to inform future guidelines, technology decisions and development priorities.

What would you like us to investigate?

Have a specific vehicle, component or security technology in mind? Or perhaps you'd like to understand more about the vehicles and systems we've benchmarked previously.  Tell us what you're interested in, and we'll connect you with our engineers to discuss the possibilities, what we can investigate and the next steps.
